The Season of Giving Back

The Season of Giving Back

After this election season, it is hard to find the good still left in America. People are scared or showing hate towards one another because of difference in opinions. This post is being written in reference to all that. We here at Family Support Circle, Inc. (FSC) want to showcase the good in our community, the outreach efforts from those who support that aspect, and put our heads together to bring each person just a little bit closer to each other this holiday season. These next couple of weeks are going to be stressful for everyone. That is usually the jest of the Holiday Season, right? Our bellies stuffed full from food, searching for the perfect gifts for our loved ones, decorating the house, wrapping presents, and family over at the house for the holidays! All of these activities bring joy to our hearts because that is what the holidays are about. Here at FSC, we have an idea that we want to...

Youth Art Sale-This Saturday!

Please come support our nonprofit's youth artist sale/showcase, in our partnership with the city of Stockbridge for Shop Small Saturday. 50% proceeds go to the local high school students who painted the artworks. The other 50% go directly to our international school in Haiti to rebuild after the damages from Hurricane Matthew last month. Student artists range from ages 14 to 18 and come from schools such as Woodland & Locust Grove High School, and more. Art pieces range from $10-$50, so there's something for every budget and for every recipient on your gift list! Thank you so much everyone for supporting local youth artists and Family Support Circle Inc. We've attached the showcase flyer with details as well as some of the art pieces by the students. There are dozens more, so come check us out! ...

Making Healthy Thanksgiving Food Choices

Making Healthy Thanksgiving Food Choices

Here at FSC, we're known for our many different branches of education-whether it's financial seminars or abstinence education. With Thanksgiving a week away, we wanted to focus on Nutrition Education. Many of us are expecting to do as we normally do-splurging and eating our body weight in stuffing. But is that the healthiest option for our children and ourselves? We don't necessarily have to skimp on Nana's famous cornbread recipe. And we don't have to eat three cranberries only and starve all night. It's taking baby steps that can go a long way. Start by drinking plenty of water between bites. Using lighter versions of recipe components can alter the overall calorie count and lessen the pounds too. For instance, using less sugar or less butter can go a long way without altering the flavor you've grown up with. The kids should get plenty of exercise before the big dinner, by playing outside or even going on a walk as a family is a...
